Driving up from the west side of Indianapolis, the Mance family met me at one of my favorite parks in Kokomo for their fall family session. This session was super special because Elizabeth is a wedding and portrait photographer herself, and she wanted to capture some photos of her sweet family before the bulk of our busy photo season begins. They also have two very young children – 3 and 1 – so it was important to schedule their session earlier in the evening to accommodate the babies’ bedtimes. I’m so glad she chose me as their family photographer for this amazing session!

When Elizabeth and Jerald pulled into the parking lot with their two kiddos, I knew this would be a dream family session with their amazing outfits and those beautiful floral crowns (Amazon for the win!). Their son Jonah was dressed in the cutest suspenders and looked absolutely dapper, and their daughter Myra wore the sweetest dress and floral crown that she had strong feelings against… but at least it kept us laughing! Their outfits were perfectly coordinated with a fall color scheme in mind – dark green, ivory, and blue. I loved that both Elizabeth and Myra had floral crowns that made for the best mother & daughter photos.
September was an unusually warm month for Indiana, and this session fell right into one of those hot evenings. Plus, we were near the woods, so we were battling mosquitos left and right. But they took the weather and mosquitos like a champ, and I think the photos are well worth any lingering bites we might be scratching! I love that we were able to capture some of the perfect sunset coming down, even with the earlier session time. It just takes some creativity to get that perfect lighting for a session, and I love that Elizabeth and her family were willing to explore with me.
We were even able to keep the kiddos occupied long enough that we could sneak Elizabeth and Jerald away for some sweet couples photos! I believe it is so important to keep documenting the love that started it all, that I will always make time during our family sessions to capture mom and dad alone.
