The Minnich family session in downtown Zionsville is one that I was probably most looking forward to photographing this fall. Kim first reached out in March, and we began planning their session! We scheduled for late October, in hopes the leaves would change and we’d still have good weather. They live in Zionsville, which has the most charming downtown area, so we took advantage and used the shops and alleyways to photograph their downtown Zionsville family session.

When Kim first asked me to photograph her family, I was absolutely thrilled. I’ve known Kim since I was a senior in college when I first met her during my student teaching semester. She works with schools across the state with their yearbooks, which is how I met her. When I was teaching, I had to snag Kim to be our yearbook rep, as well, and so our relationship began. I’ve been able to keep in touch with Kim now, as well, as she is the yearbook rep at the school where I currently work. I was so tickled to finally get to meet her family – Johnny, Cooper, and Margo – and their two dogs – Mahalo and Kahuna.
While the leaves had not even began to change and the weather was forecasting storms at our original session time, the Minnichs were able to accommodate with their flexible schedule and we moved up their session time to Friday afternoon of our fall breaks. The overcast gray skies made for some super rich, warm fall tones, and Kim and the family did an amazing job coordinating their outfits for their session. Seriously – there is some amazing fall session inspiration here!
We laughed through the entire session, with the puppies wanting to run all over town and their “owl” pose, I had the best time with these four humans and their pups! We found some super cozy areas within downtown Zionsville, some amazing brick walls, and Kim and Margo had some places in mind, as well, which made the session even more special.
As we wrapped up our time together, I couldn’t believe Kim when she told me that this was the first time they had ever had professional family photos taken like this. They nailed their outfits, their posing, and they looked fantastic… go ahead and pick up my jaw off the floor! It is so hard sometimes to trust a photographer with the most precious memories of your family, but I’m so appreciative that the Minnichs allowed me to hang out with them for their gloomy Friday afternoon! You guys are the best, and I so hope you enjoy the rest of your sneak peeks!
