As a photographer, one of the privileges I have is to be a storyteller, using images to document and capture your family’s stories – no matter where you are in the process of writing it. It brings me great joy to get to do extended family sessions, and the Sullivans and Clousers session was no different. Michelle contacted me after planning a surprise birthday party for her mom, and we scheduled their session for a couple hours before the party… meanwhile, her mom thought everyone was just in town and ready for a photo session.
Michelle chose a private location where her husband Curt farms, and it turned out to be the perfect location with a ton of variety for location selection. We landed on a shaded tree grove for most of the session, but we were able to head down to the water and go out on the pier before everyone headed back to their house for the surprise party. What a gorgeous property! I can definitely see why Michelle and Curt were so excited to shoot out there.
Michelle’s two brothers live in Michigan during the year, with one brother and his wife spending half the year in Paris. His other brother’s wife is originally from Sweden. It was so fun to get to know them a little bit throughout our time together, and it was even more excited to get to play a part in the surprise party that turned out to be a hit.
Extended family sessions – while a little wild at times – bring me such joy, because getting to document a family as they are now is absolutely invaluable. These families were so sweet and willing to work with me, and I am so blessed to have played a small role in their celebrations.
