Charlotte arrived earthside on April 27, only two days after her initial due date and 16 hours of an unbelievable labor experience for her mom Ali. While they were still in the hospital, we did Charlotte’s Fresh 48 session to capture all those sweet first hours of life details, then eight days later, I visited their home for their newborn session.
The sweet nursery that Ali and Matt created for Charlotte was absolutely beautiful, with shades of purple incorporated throughout the room along with personally designed pieces. Matt’s mom had found this darling mint polka dotted skirt that blended so well with the purple and mint quilt that Ali’s sister had made for her.
Even though Ali tried every trick to get Charlotte to sleep prior to my arrival, she was awake for the entire session! While it’s great to get some of those sleepy baby images, I love that we were able to capture some images of her focused on the camera; her eyes are absolutely beautiful!
Lifestyle newborn sessions are the best because you’re absolutely exhausted after a string of sleepless nights, so you get to relax and have a cup of hot coffee in the comfort of your home, while I capture these special images. I loved what Ali said to me while I was photographing Charlotte: “I just wanted to have a relaxed session with her.” I love that, because that’s exactly how I want my families to feel about newborn sessions. It shouldn’t be hard or complicated; it should be a time for you to enjoy cherishing the little gift that just arrived in your life.
Ali and Matt, thank you so much again for welcoming me into your home and allowing me to preserve these special moments to have for the rest of your lives. Charlotte is truly a doll, and I hope you soak up every moment of this newborn time you have with her.
