Kara and Paul’s Fort Harrison State Park engagement session was the perfect way to kick off the month of September! After rescheduling from August on a hot day, we were greeted with another hot day, and we rolled with it. The reward was that gorgeous golden hour light streaming across the fields at Fort Harrison as we wrapped up our evening together.

Kara and Paul first met about 7 years ago through an online dating website. After a few weeks of messaging back and forth, they agreed to get dinner together, and Paul told Kara to be there with bells on. Kara crafted some earrings and necklace with bells, but it seemed Paul hadn’t noticed during dinner. They headed off to a movie after dinner, and when he put his arm around her, he bumped the bell on her ear. Pausing for a moment, he flicked it again. At the end of the evening, he said, “You wore bells for me,” and those bells still hang from his car rearview mirror seven years later.
I was so excited to photograph their engagement session this month, with their wedding coming up in October. Engagement sessions are a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera, and it was so fun getting to see how they interact with one another. The sheer joy on their faces getting to spend time together made me so happy, and I love that I got to capture that in such a gorgeous location.
This session was extra special for me, too, because I have known Kara since we were in high school. We graduated way too long ago, but we spent a lot of time together during those years working on the high school newspaper staff together. After lots of late nights and deadlines, it has been a joy to get to capture her love story with Paul. They make a great pair, and I can’t wait for their wedding next month!
