Maria and JP first met while in college, so it was only fitting that we made a trip to photograph their fall engagement session at Ball State University! It happens to be my alma mater for both my bachelors and masters degrees, so I was so excited to share that connection with the two of them!

Maria and JP first met their freshman year at Ball State when they were in the same running club. They both happened to be accounting majors, and they dated for about 2-3 years before they got engaged in February 2021.
They had talked about getting married, so Maria knew he was going to propose. JP had ordered the ring online in January 2021, but Maria had no idea. She kept sending him photos of rings she liked in the meantime, while JP was organizing all the details for the proposal. She had gotten home from work one evening, and he had dinner ready for her as a surprise.
He had planned to take her for ice cream afterwards, which would give their friends time to set up a projector for a video slideshow he had put together with photos they had taken together. Unfortunately, the yummy meal filled Maria up and she didn’t want to go for ice cream. They ended up going to their church for a little while, and when they came home, JP changed into a suit and asked her to come with him outside. They watched the slideshow, and he asked her to be his wife. Of course, she said yes, and they have been planning their wedding for December ever since!
We had to reschedule their session a couple of times due to work schedules, but I was so excited to finally meet them in person and get to photograph their engagement session. We had the perfect fall evening with warmer temperatures, moody skies, and the most beautiful trees on campus. We couldn’t pick a bad spot to take photos as we adventured around.
Even though Maria and JP’s wedding is in under 4 weeks, I knew the engagement session was so important to make sure we still photographed. It was just a wonderful opportunity for them to get comfortable in front of the camera and with working with me before their wedding. It also gives them some stunning portraits from this engagement season. Not to mention, it was a great time while I got to know them and saw how they interacted with one another.
