When I first met Vanessa and Babatunde for their initial photography consult, I knew that they were going to be a great couple to work with. They planned their beautiful Indianapolis wedding with the help of their wedding planner, who sat in on our consult, and I left our meeting with my cheeks hurting from smiling and laughing so much with them. Their engagement session was one of my favorites to date, and I had been looking forward to their exquisite Community Life Center wedding for weeks.
As I arrived, Vanessa was having her hair done while the bridesmaids dressed in their gorgeous navy gowns. With the gowns they chose, they were each able to customize how they wanted their straps to look, which was perfect for unifying the look of their gown while still giving a unique look to each bridesmaid.
Babatunde and his groomsmen arrived shortly after me, and they enjoyed time together in the groom’s suite bumping to music and taking photos of one another.
Vanessa and Babatunde opted to forgo the first look but instead chose to pray together prior to the ceremony. It was beautiful to witness Babatunde praying over their marriage and their time together with family and friends, plus it gave them a connection without seeing each other before the ceremony.
They chose to have an indoor ceremony at Community Life Center, which was a great choice, with the beautiful golden tones of the architecture on the inside of the building. Vanessa’s brother walked her down the aisle and they stopped to share a few moments in the aisle together before he gave her away to Babatunde.
In front of their family and friends, they vowed to share their lives together. During the ceremony, their officiant told Vanessa that she could tell she was bubbling inside, and Vanessa and Babatunde both started laughing. It was such a sweet moment to capture.
After all the portraits were finished, Vanessa and Babatunde got the party started by sharing their first dance at the reception. Let me tell you, these two are a lot of fun! They had almost all of their guests on the dance floor all night long. It was so fun to capture everyone laughing and enjoying themselves.
One of my favorite parts of their reception was their incorporation of the African dollar dance. Traditionally, the dollar dance we see at weddings is where guests pay a wedding party member to dance with the bride or groom. But with the African dollar dance, Vanessa and Babatunde never stopped dancing together, while their guests poured money over there and bridesmaids collected the money from the floor. These two were blessed with some generous family and friends who wanted them to have a fantastic honeymoon together in California.
From start to finish, I had a blast working with Vanessa and Babatunde. They felt more like friends than clients by the end of the year, and that’s all I hope for when my couples work with me.
Vanessa and Babatunde – thank you again for choosing me to capture your love story. I’ve enjoyed getting to know you over the past several months, and it’s been such a pleasure working with you. I wish you nothing but happiness and great adventures together for life. Enjoy your sneak peeks!
