When my sister Amber asked me to photograph her maternity session, I couldn’t have been more honored to have the privilege to document such a special season for these two. Their Carmel maternity session at Coxhall Gardens in December was perfect; from the weather to the love they share between them, I couldn’t have asked for a better way to wrap up my portrait sessions for 2019.
For expectant mamas, I recommend photographing between 32-36 weeks to ensure mama is still feeling her best at the time of the session. With Amber and Kirk expecting their baby girl in February, we knew winter would be upon us in the 32-36 week time frame, and we hoped for the best fully expecting a ton of snow when we photographed their maternity session. Lucky for us, the temperatures were in the high 40s, on an overcast day when we met in Carmel on a Friday afternoon; the temperatures couldn’t have been better for late December!
The gray skies can really kill the vibe of a winter session, but we were able to find a lot of evergreen trees throughout Coxhall Gardens, which added the pop of color we needed in the dead of winter. Not to mention, Amber picked a gorgeous dress to show off her cute baby bump and pull in some more color for the photos.
With the chilly day, we practically had the entire park to ourselves, so we took full advantage and explored. I am so happy with how their session turned out, and I’m even more thrilled to become an aunt to this sweet niece of mine in February! Congratulations, Amber & Kirk. I can’t wait for you two to meet your sweet girl in a few short weeks!
