Autumnal Kokomo Engagement Session | Haleigh & DJ

Haleigh and DJ are such a fun, loving couple, and on a chilly fall afternoon, I met them for their autumnal Kokomo engagement session. You’d never know from their photos that rain threatened to postpone the session, and the location we originally had reserved didn’t work out at the last minute. These two were so flexible and understanding, and we were rewarded with amazing foliage throughout the entire park right before the leaves fell for the season.

Kokomo engagement session at Jackson Morrow ParkA few years ago, Haleigh’s friend set her up on a dating website for her, even though she wasn’t interested. She promised her friend she would give the site a week before she’d deleted her profile. On the last day before she deleted it, DJ messaged her and asked what type of tree she liked, which is the willow tree. Over their years together, they have even gotten matching willow tree tattoos, which I love!

Their first date was Easter 2016, where they walked one of the trails in her town and went to get coffee afterward. They said after that they wanted to spend every weekend together, so they’d take turns making the one-hour drive each weekend to see each other.

When DJ was ready to propose to Haleigh, he was trying to decide the best way to ask. He had a few different ideas, and after he asked her family for their blessing, he waited until he came up with the perfect proposal.

He wanted to do something for the proposal where they could always returned on their anniversaries. They both enjoy McClure’s Orchard in Peru, so he planned the proposal and had a friend record it. He had a long speech planned, but as soon as he got down on one knee, he went blank because “she looked so amazing and was at a loss of words.” But long speech or not, of course she said yes!

Haleigh and DJ are planning an amazing Fall 2021 wedding at beautiful The Legacy Barn in Kokomo, Indiana. I’m so excited to get to capture their wedding day as they celebrate with their family and closest friends next year!
